Scottie's Blog:
Keep things clean to reduce allergens
Posted August 14, 2008
Hi guys!
It’s Scottie here again. Hope you’re doing well and putting up
a good fight against those nasty allergens. With my tips by your
side, I know you’re winning the fight and staying healthy.
Well, this week, like before, I’ve got more tips for you!
My first tip is to make sure that you and your kids don’t eat in
bed. Anything that produces crumbs will most likely get stuck
between your sheets and will begin to develop mold and produce
allergens. Don’t even get me started on the possibility of roaches.
YUCK!!
Anyway, my second tip of the week is for your family to institute a
hand washing policy. This will help reduce dirt and allergens in your
home. When the kids come home from school, have them head directly to
the sink to wash their hands. And don’t forget the soap!
Well, I guess that’s it for me this week. I hope you found my tips
helpful. If you have any questions or have some tips of your own,
feel free to e-mail me
with your thoughts!
Are your kids carrying more than books?

Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope you found my last blog as
interesting and educational as the first. Well, this week, I’m
back with even better tips for you and your family to stay
healthy and reduce allergens in your life.
My first tip of the week has to do with your kids’ backpacks.
Did you know that those backpacks, or knapsacks if you will, have
a ton of allergy-causing potential in them? My suggestion is to
have you and your kids empty out their backpacks routinely to
remove any leftover snacks that may cause the growth of mold and
bacteria. Hey, look at it this way, you and your kids may find
some fun hidden treasures or forgotten toys in there!
Another good habit to get into is to avoid placing backpacks
on the kitchen table or kitchen counter where you prepare food.
‘Cause no matter how much you shake them out or how much cleaning
you do on the inside, you can’t imagine the amount of irritants
and dirt those backpacks bring back from school and the school
bus. Yuck!
Well, I think that’s it for this week. I hope you guys are
keeping track of the tips and continue to enter my awesome
sweepstakes. Remember, if you have any questions or your own
tip suggestions, you can always

Stress could make your kids
more prone to allergies!
Posted July 11, 2008
Hi there,
welcome back to my blog! I hope you found your last visit to the
site helpful. This week, I’d like to share a few additional
hypoallergenic tips with you.
Did you know that stress could make your kids more prone to
allergies? Stress can make an existing reaction worse by increasing
the level of histamine in the bloodstream. If you are feeling
anxious or stressed, your body releases numerous hormones and
other chemicals, including histamine. Keep a careful eye on your
child’s stress level. If you notice an increased level of stress,
talk to your pediatrician about stress reducing activities. My
favorite way to de-stress is a game of catch with my dog Buddy!
Another thing that can trigger an allergic reaction is chalk
dust, which can act as an irritant that can trigger an asthma attack.
Students with allergies or asthma should try to stay away from the
chalkboard and erasers, and wash hands after writing on the board.
One of our visitors to the site last week suggested that we all
remember to not only wash our hands, but to also take an extra
preventative measure by using an extra tissue, as barrier, whenever
touching a doorknob. That’s a great tip! Thanks Brelon!

Tips and Suggestions for
an Allergen-Free School Year
Posted July 1, 2008
Hey there! Scottie here again. I’m glad you stopped in to
check out my new blog. This will be the place where I provide
you with weekly hypoallergenic tips and ideas of how you can
have a more pure school year.
First off, I’d like to remind all moms and dads that one
sure way to keep your house allergen free this fall is to
establish a “no shoe” policy. In addition to dirt, this will
help reduce the number of allergens from entering the home.
These allergens may include grass pollens, weeds and tree
allergens. If you can keep an allergen free carpet or floor,
this will greatly diminish the discomfort of sneezing, itchy
eyes or other allergen irritations.
Another way that you can keep your kids allergen safe,
starting this school year, is to wash their stuffed animals
often. It’s best to wash them each week to get rid of any
dust, dirt and dander. Doing this will be especially helpful
for those kids that like to cuddle with their stuffed friends.
But make sure to buy durable and washable toys, so that you
don’t ruin them by washing them for your kids. ‘Cause there’s
one thing worse than a stuffed bear full of allergens, and
that’s a stuffed bear without any stuffing. Ha!
Hope these tips help and there’s more where that came from,
because you can check in weekly to find the latest updates to
my blog. If you have questions or would like to offer your own
hypoallergenic tip, I’d love to hear from you. Please follow the link below
and shoot
me an e-mail with your thoughts.
Then, check in weekly to see if your tip has been included in
my post or if I answered your question.
Keeping your loved ones as pure as they already are will
be a great beginning of a new school year!
